Maui was my 3rd Hawaiian island I've visited. The road to hana is a gorgeous drive and if you go to maui and don't do it... well then you missed the point. I saw HUGE turtles here and that was my favorite part! We did a day trip to free dive and snorkel in Molokini. That was so much fun! The water was much more clear there and we saw a ton of trigger & needle fish. I experienced the worst sunburn of my life and got sun poisoning
but that's neither here nor there... (wear spf)
My only regret was not going in February which is peak whale season. I would have loved to snap some shots with the humpbacks. Definitely leave your winter blues behind and book this trip January – March.
black sand beach, tons of HUGE turtles, lots of waterfalls, great food, road to hana
did i mention there's like, a lot of waterfalls?
it had a slightly "retirement" vibe in certain places, very spread out, lots of hotels/stores
(which would be a pro for some people i know)
Waianapanapa State Park (black sand beach)
Makena Beach (also known as Big Beach)
